4.2: The good and the bad so far

The Good:
Hunter
-Assist and Defensive stances for pets. Assist makes your pet attack whoever you are attacking, and Defensive makes your pet attack whoever is attacking you or your pet. Very useful and much more easier to manage.
-CC does not pull. No more waiting around, you and the mage both shuffling forward like you're about to CC. :D
Druid
-Not sure yet how the new Mastery will play out, but after hitting the 2005 haste breakpoint, Mastery is your number one priority. I'm assuming that means its pretty nice.
-All healing crits affect have been increased by 200%. WTF. Where did that come from. 75k heals from a paladin O.o Kthxbai
Other
-Being able to move characters on your list. I love that Covington is now numero uno. Thank you!
-Reading mail does the /map animation. Awww the little details.
-Molton Front Dailies: Yay!...That is all.

The Bad
Thrall, Aggra, and that stupid Questline
I'm sorry. I am not a fan of Thrall anymore. I'm very heavily Team Garrosh, namely because I'm realizing how cliche'd and convenient Thrall's life is. Aggra is very annoying. She comes out of nowhere and is now Thrall's lifemate. O..k....
The animation and cutscenes were impressive. I give them that. And Thrall's new model is super duper shiny. Almost too shiny. Talk about making everyone else look outdated. But hey, I guess he's special. Honestly, I preferred his old model simply because he was an Orc, just like Malfurion is a nelf. I always thought the two were similar, just one for each faction/class, but I suppose I was wrong. Thrall should stand up right. Yah!
Also, all his animations are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY melodramatic. I kinda talk that way all the time, so I should know...
Aggra's voice went from really annoying orc grunt ish, to husky womanly. Nice touch there.I always thought she had a strange man steroids voice when I would fly down to the Maelstrom. But hey, she talks a lot, probably not a bad idea to make the voice not so horrible sounding. She is Thrall's wifey now.
The questline was okay. Lore wise, its interesting. But the actual tasks are mundane and the same in each plane. Somehow I also kept getting flagged and kept dying from stupid Allies so I'm not sure.
By the time I was in the Firelands doing the last part of Thrall's spirit or whatever, protecting Aggra's totems (apparently she's not the only one whose doing steroids) I was pretty much over it. I only did it on my hunter because the epic cloak rewarded at the end was a decent upgrade, but the thought of running on other toons just makes my sanity ache.
Oh hai Nozdormu
He's been missing for two expansions, but Nozdormu just suddenly APPEARS, given a new model and standing around during Thrall's wedding/super plan. Yeah...fuck this shit...
That's all for now. We'll see as time goes on. I was able to buy a ton of old VP gear to gather into a haste set and grab that 2005 breakpoint. I'll see how healing goes now. :)
In general though, this Patch's release has gone VERY smoothly. No long maintenance times or blowing up servers. Nice job Blizz.

Mobus!

While preparing to do a Heroic Lost City run, my boyfriend's NPC Scan freaked out while he was floating in Vash'jir. Sure enough, there he was, in all his glory. Mobus, The Crushing Tide. Quickly, we assembled our team, me hopping on my druid to heal and my friends on their mages. Our group ended up being two mages, a druid, and a prot pally. Just as we were about to pull, two sea horses rush by. A dwarf warrior and his dranei priest friend steal Mobus right from under our noses! We watched sadly, as the two began dwindling his hp. Slowly, steady. It was taking forever.
Then, my game screen shook. I had aggro! For some reason, one tiny Rejuvenation on a friend had given me aggro. Well. It wasn't that surprising. haha. Anyways, I try swimming around, to drop aggro, when I realize I have threat! Then, I notice Evade! Evade! appear on my SUF. He reset!
My bf did that shieldie shiny thing prot pallies do, and he was ours!
Healing, this fight was an interesting one. There were times I was sweating, but not because of the healing itself.
Moves/Strategy: Water fighting sucks. You have to kite the guy during the move, Ram, a powerful cleave move. Wake is a aoe type move that hits everyone within his melee range. Finally, Algae is a little green range move he shoots at ppl. Once it hits, it leaves a green goop in the water. Just swim away.
The fight takes a good 10 mins with 4 people. He has 12.5million health.
For a healer, the hardest part is keeping in range of everyone. If everyone is doing what they re supposed to, there shouldn't be too much damage. However, avoiding everything does end up splitting the group apart. Its important to keep near the tank, however, if he dies, someone else can plausibly kite him. This is assuming you don't have Allies breathing down your neck like we did.
The best way to avoid him resetting is to tank him back and forth, NOT up and down. That is how the last group reset him. My bf also tried and only moved him back and forth, not too far from his spawn point.
The other thing you don't need to worry about is mana issues. I had none, but made sure to pop my trinket and Innervate at proper times. I never dropped below 70% mana.

Towards the end of the fight, the warrior began trying to reset Mobus from us. I wasn't about to let that happen. Between moonfires and Rejuvenations, I switched to bear form and taunted Mobus from the warrior, afraid that my bf's taunts might not be up.
In a very anti-climatic moment, Mobus turned around and floated dead as we finally killed him. IN YOUR FACE ALLIES!
Not only did we win! But we won good! I was excited because we basically took him from some dumbass allies who stole him from us in the first place. It was even more exciting that they tried, in vain to steal him back. Naee would be so proud. :)
So now, my hunter has a kick-ass spear, my bf has a nice cape, and we finally have the bracer mighty intel enchant in our guild. Was an epic fight.
Otacon Report: Jadefang + baby
Quick report. I finally got Jadefang, the final rare in my endeavor. I might try for a couple more Madexx, but my stables are pretty stuffed.
I also was able to grab Jadefang again, this time as a kill to grab the pet. Now I have mama and baby together. :)
That reminds me. I hate Ahune. He can suck it. What a terrible fight!

Otacon Report: Sambas & Deathwing

Forgive my typing today. You may notice some of my words don't hve "A's" on it. My keyboard is acting weird and the "A" isn't going through all the time. I have to see what I can do about it. Apparently, "A" is important. It's funny though; as I type this, the "A" is working fine, but in WoW and all last night, my sentences were confusing looking.
Sambas!
Sambas was the next on my list. I was super excited and anxious to get him because he is a non-exotic pet. I will be using him as my main pet for my marksman/survival builds if I ever have them. The cat family have the Agility/Strength buff, so I needed a nice one for my non-exotic builds.
Sambas is tough because he has multiple spawn locations, all near prime hub areas in Twilight Highlands. I spent a better portion of last night and this morning camping these locations, fearful of someone swooping in and stealing my kitty before I could get there. After 8 hours of sitting around wanting to die, I finally called it a night and went to bed. I woke up a couple hours later, and just hopped on to check his spawn locations. Low and behold, the last one I checked, there he was waiting for me.
It was kind of funny, because I couldn't find him. I had him targeted and marked from NPC Scan, and yet I couldn't see him among the trees. He was a lot smaller then other past pets I have tamed before.
I can't think of  name for him. Simba, Mufasa, and Scar all don't work because Blizzard is (righfully) afraid of copyright infringement from Disney I am sure. We'll see what I come up with for him and Karoma.
Yeh, I feel tht wy too Mr. Cat. Unless you are wanting to eat baby moonkin. Then no. -_- zzz
Deathwing!
I also got the Standing in Fire achievement last night. I kinda like the way the whole lands burn up, even though getting interrupted and having to fly to your corpse is no fun. But hey, at least I got an achievement right.
FEED MY ACHIVEMENT WHORE ADDICTION!
No taming for you!

Otacon Report: Ding! Karoma and Ghostcrawler!

Karoma
I was 80% into level 84, just chugging along at a regular pace. Then, while just outside a Dragonmaw camp, BOOM! NPC Scan goes off. I begin to panic! Karoma is so close to me, and I am so close to 85 but not close enough! I checked /Hunters 85, and realized that no hunters were in Twilight Highlands, atleast on the Horde side. There was a spark of hope. In record time, 30 mins at the most, I burned my way through level 84, 88%, 92%, 97%! At 99% I began just shooting stuff, killing as much as possible as fast as possible. Finally, I dinged! In what seemed like forever.
I rushed off to the spot I saw Karoma and...
Winner! Still no name. I'm thinking of it.
Ghostcrawler
After successfully grabbing Karoma, I decided to try my luck at Sambas and Ghostcrawler. No Sambas, but while lurking around the Abyssal Maw, my NPC Scan rang out, claiming Ghostcrawler was nearby. Yet. Nothing. Apparently, he fades in and out, so I desperately searched for him. There he was! Waiting for me to strike. I had heard some stories about him. Being unkillable and strong, so I popped a haste pot and began taming. Man it was close. I was still in my questing gear so my health was scary low. But just as I dropped to 10k health, my tame finished!
Was a good hunter day for me. Not only did I finally ding! (god I hate Cataclysm leveling), but I got some more pets. I can't wait to get the last two, Sambas and Jadefang.

Otacon Report: Madexx (Attempt 2)

There are good people still out there.
After a long night at work, and a disappointing brown Madexx, I battled sleep while waiting for another spawn. Afraid I was dealing with a 12 hour + spawn rate on the next one, I set up my cell phone with alarms and hoped for the best.
At just a little over 6 hours, I was laying on my bed, computer on, dozing, when I looked at my screen and realized someone was emoting me, /point. It was another hunter, a dranei, pointing over yonder urgently. I followed her and there he was! Madexx, in green! I was so excited. I landed and tamed him, then emoted to the dranei my gratitude. I feel very lucky that this person was nice enough to point me over to Madexx. I assume it was because they did not need the green skin Madexx, but it was still nice that they didn't just kill him. Thank you Amore from Undermine US! :D
Am far too tired to think of a name for him, so Scorpid he will stay. Green is my favorite color so I'm psyched he's green. I hope black is in the future too though. :O

Otacon Report: Madexx (Attempt 1.5)

So, after seeing the unfortunate corpse of Madexx, I figured out times and when I should drop in. Although timing is always a very difficult thing to pinpoint, I decidedto go by the 6-8 hour spawn timer idea, and calculated that I should start looking around 7 pm pacific. Unfortunately, I got held up at work (yay money!) and so I desperately called my boyfriend, who was more then happy enough to camp for me while I slaved away in the freezers.

The good news, is that he appeared. The bad news is that he appeared in brown. So I plan to burn my way to 85 while waiting for another 6-8 hours to camp again.

Unfortunately, his timer is actually reported at 6-12 hours, so we'll see. The good news is that I don't work until 630 tomorrow night. The bad news is that I might not have the will to stay up that late.

Wish me luck!

Hunter Service Announcement

Edit: I realize that this Madexx is a brown color, a common color found on another mob, Venom something or another spitters. But the point can still be made. :(

Nothing is more depressing to a hunter then seeing this.
Please! if you see any of the Cataclysm rare pets, Terrorpene, Madexx, the ghost wolf and Sambas, the lion, DO NOT KILL THEM!!! They don't count towards any achievement and drop a grey! I know there are some hunters out there that would pay gold if you let them know about the spawn!

30 Days of Gaming: Day 1: Very First Video Game

Preface
Found this on a friend's facebook and thought I'd make a little blog project with it. I've been watching G4's E3 coverage and I have to admit, its been a good 2 years since I've touched a console. I think my last game was FF13 and maybe Halo: Reach with my BF. Sorry I forgot Pokemon White. The point is, besides portable consoles, I have steered clear from console gaming. Most of it is the whole, Console War situation going on. For me, the constant exclusivity of some games on systems has drained my energy, and my wallet. I can't complain considering I own every system but a DSI and 3DS. But 15 Dollars a month instead of 60 per a game, give or take what games comes out ends up being cheaper. Watching E3 reminded me of how much I miss console gaming, but also reminds me that the current direction of gaming does not in anyway appeal to me.
I not only loathe 3D, but I'm not a huge fan of the movement interactivity type gaming style (Wiimote, Kinect, and PS Move). Watching E3, specifically the Xbox 360 Portion was very disheartening, where all the games show a huge amount of interactivity, from everything to Fable and Tom Clancy. It's such a gimmick to me. And while I'm impressed by the Kinect, I have always been a HUGE Sony fan, and I am sad to see them suffer such drawbacks like the hackers and the Japanese Earthquake. There's just something extremely arrogant about Microsoft. Silly Americans.
So in the spirit of looking back to my old console gaming days, here's my new blogging challenge. Yay! :D

Otacon Report: 4 Spirit Beasts and a Turtle

/cue Pokemon Theme Song
I wanna be, the very best...

In just over a week, I have gone from "meh, yeah I have a hunter," to "ZOMG HUNTER I LOVE TAMING PETS GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!"
Yeah it's sad. It's also been quite a journey. It reminds me of my mindless farming in FF 12, where I would spend hours running back and forth between areas for a certain treasure spawn. BTW, random treasure spawns in Final Fantasy games = STUPIDEST IDEA EVER! (maybe after the junction system <.<)
In naming my hunter Otacon, after Hal Emmerich from Metal Gear Solid series, I decided to try and stick with that theme for my pets. I found a dog and named it Naomi Hunter ;). My devilsaur is named MetalGear REX. I named my wolf Sniper and my ghost cat Ocelot. Yes I think I'm incredibly clever.
However, the biggest challenge was of course trying to get the more coveted beasts, namely, the spirit beasts in Northrend. I had timing on my side; considering that Northrend is fairly empty now, I was easily able to obtain two of the 4 Northrend spirit beasts because noone was around.
NPC Scan is a must for these, and along with NPC Overlay, I was easily able to find them, even if it took a while.
NPC Scan is also a great way to give yourself a heartattack. Sure you can make the sounds less scary and loud, but then you might miss out if you don't hear it in time. So yeah, I gave myself 4 heartattacks (because I didnt use NPC Scan for Arcticus)

Arcticus (75)
My first tame was the spirit bear, Arcticus, namely because he was the first available. He was an easy fine, already waiting for me when I flew over to his roaming spot. I like his look because he's a ghostly druid like bear. The detail of his eyes, with the slight mask on them, looks awesome. I wish he was a normal tenancity pet, even though I have used ferocity pets for tanking anyways.
I named him Gekko, after a mass produced weapon in MGS4. Gekko means "moonlight" in Japanese.

Gondria (77)
I got Gondria before Loque'nahak because while I was waiting for Loque, I leveled a bit. Once I hit 77, I went off to see if he was there, and low and behold, he was waiting for me.
I named him Whisper because a guildie suggested it. He does look like a whisper doesn't he. I can't find any fitting names for him in MGS, so we'll see if I rename him

Loque'nahak (76)
And thus begins the true attempt to camp for a pet. This one took me 7 hours to obtain. I spent a few hours camping certain areas, and circling Sholazar Basin. The most unfortunate thing about Loque is that he has about 6 different spawn areas spread throughout Sholazar. It also made me nervous because I saw quite a few hunters come in and out looking for him.
I ended up leveling at the same time. My friend convinced me that the true pet I was after, which is true, is Skoll and that I shouldn't just wait around. I began leveling in Sholazar while making periodic runs around looking for Loque. Low and behold, NPC Scan went off and I had a heartattack, then was able to tame this beauty.
I named him Revolver (Revolver Ocelot) because I already named my ghost leopard Ocelot. He is by far the prettiest cat I've scene. I love that he is not entirely spectral, just his face.

Skoll (80)
The whole reason I started this has to do with Skoll, the lightening worg. Skoll was a bad challenge for me. I started camping late at night on Sunday, but I had opened at work at 6, meaning I was up at 5. With little sleep under my belt I tried staying up as long as possible, waiting for Skoll. The rumored spawn timers are 6-8 hours, and just when I was hitting my 5th hour camping, I crashed. No joke. Just fell asleep backwards on my bed. I of course got AFK logged and woke up to Deathwing's face. :( I spent the rest of the day camping. I had to leave for a couple hours to do errands. Then I left to spend time with my bf. I checked in every now and then at my BF's house, but to no avail. I was pretty sure he spawned while I was gone and someone snatched him up. I went home and my Bf helped me camp one of the three spots. Unfortunately for me, one of the spots being camped was by another Orc, and it was the one that seemed to be most "common".  We waited for four hours, with me checking in on the other Orc to see if he was still there. I figured if he wasn't he either gave up or tamed him. Luckily he didn't move much.
Then, a whisper came from my BF. :O! he said! I mounted up and was speeding over. There he was, after almost a 24 hour watch for him. I tamed him right away, and was giddy with joy! He is so awesome looking!
His name is Raiden, because of his lightning. Raiden in Japanese means lightning. I think, as far as MGS theme goes, it's a perfect match!

Terrorpene (81)
Super lava fire turtle! I wasn't looking for this one seriously. But man was this the toughest one to get. I was sweating. My BF and I are leveling together to 85, him on his pally, so I spent my off time unpacking my room some more and camping for him. After about 10 hours, another hunter showed up, and he would not go away. I moved away from him, and my NPC scan went off. BAM! Scared the shit out of me.
My heart was racing. Because this isn't just a jump down and tame him kind of pet. This required another action bar and some macros. Because he was out of range from the Night Elf, I dropped quickly, ate some buff food to increase my stam and haste, and then used a resistance potion to help fend off the lava and Terrorpene's attack. Terrorpene has a very harsh lava breath that he channels. It burns through your hp, and along with lava damage, it is no fun. I had my core hound out and cast ancient hysteria on immediately, before dismissing him. I popped a Potion of Speed, Deterrence and then started my tame. Boy the heart was pounding. Although my tame ended up being quick one, I watched in panic as my hp dropped, knowing full well that if I failed, Terrorpene would belong to the Nelf behind me. And finally, when I saw LOW HEALTH pop on my screen, Terrorpene shrunk and landed besides me. I did it! The nelf flew near me and targeted me, but didn't do much. I proudly showed him off for a few seconds, while eating some buff food to get my health high.
This guy has no name yet. I can't decide, and there's no turtle in MGS so I'm figuring it out. Look and Skin wise, he is hands down my favorite. The little details, like his lava cracked flesh, to the fire breathing from his mouth and the volcano horn that steams smoke, is absolutely gorgeous. I love that he is not exotic, and am excited that, as a tenacity pet, we have many adventures of soloing ahead of us.

More?
I've taken on a few other less challenging pets. Ashtail, the only purple-grey fox, Olm the Wise, a spectral Owl, and Aotona, a beautiful purple and blue Macaw bird, are also all mine. While searching for Loque, I also ran smack into King Krush, who was also swiftly tamed. I am having a blast finding different pets and making them mine.

Next
Will be Maddex, the scorpion, Sambas, the lion cat, and the last two spirit beasts, Karoma, the spirit wolf guide, and Ghostcrawler, the spectral crab. Idk if I want Ghostcrawler, but he's on the list.
Gotta catch'em all!

Still Around & There and Back Again

I've had a busy few days the past week or so. Between moving from my college "dorm room" back to my old house has been stressful. I haven't slept this well or this long in months! Of course it's partially from exhaustion that I've been falling asleep between 9:30-10:30 pm. That is a scary thought to me. Am I old?!?!
I also finally passed my driver's test! Scary! It wasn't a pleasant experience; in fact it was downright traumatizing. But I mean, something this monumental would never go by without some drama. My life is just like that. And in the end, it doesn't matter. My license won't say "Barely passed," or "Had worst instructor EVR!" on it. It'll just say that I can drive legally. I can live with that.
So exactly which world am I in?
In 7 days, my Rift account will expire. I was on last night to say my goodbyes to the guildies I was playing with, and sent out my platinum and materials. The choice to leave Rift was a swift one. The guildies I was playing with were some of my favorite people. They always made me laugh and welcomed. But the game itself isn't welcoming. And luckily, I know that this game isn't what is keeping these friendships alive. Rift is a great game, with innovation and a polished look. Invasions are fun; rifts are a nice change from the norm. However, as far as a world goes, Rift is still developing, and while it would be fun to see where it goes, I'm not in a point in my life where I can wait around and see what happens. And I love alts. I am a serious alt-o-holic. Rift does not play very well with that set of mind. There is no real variation within the game as far as quest lines go. You have to lines: Defiant or Guardian. Another difficult thing to adjust to is going back to the basic "kill this, retrieve that" quest mindset. WoW has done a great job at creating a single player experience (which may be considered a weakness in an MMO). They achieved this by introducing quest variation; from vehicle quests, and serious storyline quests. It's pretty awesome.
Rift's strength is in it's group play. The ease of public groups and vastness of invasions allow for a wonderful multiplayer experience. Unfortunately, I am finding that being interrupted by invasions is incredibly frustrating. I miss the single player experience in an MMO, where I can quest uninterrupted, and when I feel like dealing with people, I can simply join an instance.
That old mindset
It's safe to say that the above mindset is the one I'm sitting comfortably in. After the end of school, I went to Target and bought myself a WoW game time card. Yep. I fell off the wagon (or so to speak). I'm not raiding. I did ZA and ZG a couple times and I'm over it. I found that running dungeons with some guildies was fun again because I really did miss my healing UI. Man did I miss addons!
I also am back to leveling alts. I started a new toon, Noctis, a paladin, to experience ( for reals this time) the new leveling experience. I'm almost level 40, and have been through Silverpine, Stonetalon and Southern Barrens. I've discovered that the way to execute people in Horde, thanks to Garrosh, is to toss them from a high up place; bridge, window, you know.
My other current WoW obsession is my hunter, Otacon (yes METAL GEAR?!?). He's a lot of fun, and I am currently obsessed with pet searching! Since they increased the stable to 25 pets, I've been collecting unique looking pets, usually ones who have only one model of them (cuz Blizzard loves to reuse and recolor models.) I've got almost all the spirit beasts from WotLK, currently waiting for Skoll.
Blog from here
I renamed it Clearcasting since I'm back in WoW (yeah I am indecisive). I won't be raiding, so no guides or analyses or entries where I sound like I know what I'm doing. I have to figure out what direction I want to take this blog, but I haven't decided yet. We'll have to see.
